Where We Started

Andulhea Heritage Center was formed after Rehrersburg's bicentennial in 2003 by a small group of local residents who hoped and still hope to share with people of all ages the rich history of this area.  The Lenape Indians had villages here and many of their artifacts have been found, including arrow heads, stones used for grinding, and spear points. The Rehrersburg area, the frontier of Pennsylvania during the mid-1700s, was the scene of numerous attacks during the French and Indian War.  The Tulpehocken Path going from the  Council Fire at Onondaga southward passed through today's towns of Bethel, Rehrersburg, Womelsdorf, on to Reading and then Philadelphia, the colonial capital. This path was the primary means of communication between the Six Nations of the Iroquois and the Pennsylvania authorities, represented by Conrad Weiser.
